A Vegetable Vendor :)

Dated:26.08.2020

It was one of those days when you want to be on the street and marvel at just the simple things in life.

I was taking a walk outside my building and observing people around and just being happy for no reason in particular, when i came across a very young person selling vegetables.

He had this amazing aura around him and it felt good just observing him continuing with his daily business.

His genuineness struck me and i just sat next to him asking him more about his life and family.

His name is Vivek and he lives close-by in Malad East.

The first thing i asked him was that he did not had a large variety of vegetables but was only selling some of them.

To this, he replied that in the current market , a lot of vegetables are not good and there is no point selling something that is not  good enough for us consumers.

I saw that he only had limited quantity of what he was selling but everything looked so fresh and good.

It made me realize the beauty of doing one thing but doing it to the best of your capability rather than doing multiple things and doing it halfheartedly.

He shared more about his family and his daily routine.

He used to initially sell vegetables 50 feet away at the corner of the road where two roads intersected.

The business was good and he made good money during the lock-down, but in that place a person used to initially sell sandwiches before the lock-down and when he saw that vivek was making good money, he asked him to move somewhere else and he himself started selling vegetables at that place.

Vivek mentioned to me that all his customers started going to him because it was slightly difficult to find vivek in this new place.

But he was happy and hopeful that business will be good again here.

He loves interacting with his customers and has such gratitude for everything.

His Father had lost ancestor land in split between his brothers, his married sister has returned home due to her family issues and abuses by her husband.

But nothing has changed viveks spirit and he goes about doing his work regularly ( waking up 430 am,going to kandivali mandi , searching for good quality vegetables, buying tomatoes from goregaon east and selling vegetables in our area from 7 am to 9 pm everyday)

Sometimes, it makes me wonder and self reflect that we take what we have in such a granted way and not appreciate whatever we have.

But meeting people like vivek just opens up your eye and makes you realize that life is very beautiful and happiness lies in being grateful always.
